I have been doing a lot of research lately on Smart Drugs. These are natural drug products that are used to increase brain function in a whole variety of ways. I like to call them brain food. One that I came across a little while ago is called Ashwagandha, and I have now been taking it for a little over two months. Ashwagandha is a bush with yellow flowers and red berries that originated in India, Africa, and the Middle East. It is actually distantly related to the potato and tomato family. Now it is grown in its countries of origin as well as in North America.
This Smart Drug was embraced by ancient Indian healers who believe in Ayurveda, or the science of life. It is considered one of the most powerful herbs in Ayurvedic healing and dates as far back as more than 4000 years B. C. Known to promote strength in a number of capacities that include sexual potency and stamina, fighting illness, strength of mind, combats stress, anxiety and depression, and many more. This supplement covers many categories, and can therefore be relied upon as a contribution to one’s overall health. While the leaves and fruit are useful, it is typically the ground root of the Ashwagandha plant that is used as nootropic.
As a working mom, my life basically revolves around stress. Packing school lunches, racing around to get the kids to school, get to work, deadlines and disasters, after-school activities, meals, trying to organize everyone’s needs. It is like I’m constantly running on a treadmill. I have decided to make my personal health and happiness a priority, but I do not want to do it at the expense of the people I love. This is why my research started with Smart Drugs, as I have a strong desire to keep myself happy and healthy while still riding the roller coaster that is my life. I can’t even begin to tell you what a huge difference Ashwagandha made. Those ancient Indian healers knew their stuff! I am sleeping better than I ever had before. I seem to be able to shut down my over-active mind when it comes time to rest, and I wake up feeling rested and calm. I have found myself much better able to handle daily stressors, like work issues and random kid arguments. Maybe it is because I’m better rested, I don’t know, but I don’t find myself in a constantly anxious state because of an upcoming deadline either at home or at work. My brain feels clear and focused, so I feel more capable in the face of stress. My moods are on a pretty even keel too. I mean, we all have our days, but before I started taking this medication, the bad days definitely outnumbered the good, and that has been turned on its head. I’m very happy with the place I am in emotionally, even though none of the outside factors have changed. I feel like I am in control of my feelings, moods, and emotions.
Now for the physical changes… wow. I am happy to report that after about 2 months taking this Smart Drug, I am down about 15 lbs on the scale! My appetite is lower and I don’t find myself struggling with unhealthy food cravings. Before starting Ashwagandha, I basically always wanted sugar in some form, be it in the form of actual sweets like ice cream or chocolate, or in the form of starches like potatoes and bread. I don’t really find myself wanting to eat those foods at this point, I’m more inclined to slice up some cucumber with hummus. But overall I’m just less interested in eating, which as someone who has struggled with obesity her entire life, is a huge change for the better. I’m so happy to feel like I’m in control. I don’t know if my moods are better because of my weight or if my weight is better because of my moods, but to be honest, I don’t care! I’m just happy that there is something that is giving me a sense of emotional freedom that I haven’t had before. It has also proven to be a very effective pain reliever. I previously suffered from severe cramping on a monthly basis with my cycle. While I can still feel it, the pain relief is better than what I was getting out of my traditional pain relief methods. I have also noticed a reduction in pre-menstrual bloating. Also, the swelling I used to get around my ankles during a certain time of the month from water retention is dramatically reduced. I don’t mind saying goodbye to those unfortunate cankles.
Now let’s talk about where to get this stuff. You can buy Smart Drugs all over the place. Ashwagandha is available over the counter, without a prescription, so you have a lot of choices of where to get it. It is available in powder and capsule form. I STRONGLY prefer the capsules. It was initially recommended to me to mix the powder with milk before bed to promote healthy sleep. The fact that I don’t like milk may have been a factor here, but I found it pretty unpleasant. I have no problems taking the capsules, so that’s what I chose. I believe that it is important to look for a retailer who is reliable, who offers recommendations, reviews, has a good return policy, and readily available customer support if you need them. There is nothing worse than having a question about something new and not being able to contact the company you purchased it from for guidance. It’s also a good idea to shop around. Ashwagandha is available on its own, as well as blended with other nootropic substances that promote similar results, so make sure to do your own research, and try a few different ones out to see which Smart Drug brand give you the best results on your way to optimal health.
